Ice Fishing on Moosehead Lake, Maine

Current Conditions

March 21st, 2017

Wilsons on Moosehead Lake reporting: It's still winter at Moosehead! Yesterday may have been the first day of spring but you wouldn't be able to tell looking outside! Last week's snowstorm dumped 12-18 inches of snow on top of a rock hard base, leaving us with more great riding! Trails are in great shape where they're groomed and it's looking like the weather is going to hold out! Interested in a guided trail ride to get to know the area? Or maybe a off-trail backcountry adventure with a Registered Maine Guide? Give us a call today to set up your package!

We've been getting a lot of calls and emails wondering about the lake conditions. Most areas of the lake have a good 18-22 inches of ice with plenty of snow on top to keep the sleds cooled down. With that said, always use caution any time you are on the lake and be sure to know the area you are traveling! The warm up opened up some of the trouble spots even more (that you should always avoid) including the area in front of the dam as seen on our webcams. We still have PLENTY of ice to the right of the docks and out further. Be safe and get out there and enjoy these longer springlike days!

Thinking you wanna try your hand at ice fishing but don't have the gear? Or have the gear but not sure of a good spot on the lake? Give us a call today to book your personalized guided ice fishing trip! It's a blast for people of all ages!

pontoon.jpgWi-Fi update!!!! We have a broadband system offering wireless Internet to our guests and all of the cabins.  We upgraded the system, so it now reaches everyone staying here and is password protected!   We also have set up more cabins with satellite TVs.  The year round cabins (excluding our 2 smallest) along with Lakeside Cabin, now ALL have TV!  Never thought it would be that popular here in the North Maine Woods, but it has become that way…so we aim to please!

We have added a pontoon boat to our guide fleet for amazing sunset tours or private lake cruises with an experienced Registered Maine Guide. No security deposit needed, and gas is included! Folks who aren't comfortable with boating are truly enjoying sitting back, relaxing, taking in the scenery and views while leaving the driving to us! This new adventure is sure to make some incredible memories with guests and our Guide Staff. It has already seen many evening sunset cruises to area islands, and some "fun in the sun" days on Moosehead Lake with guests enjoying the water, hiking Mt. Kineo, and learning some history on the way. Book early for summer, so you don't miss out on the opportunity to explore Moosehead!

We have expanded our guide business and the East Outlet Guide & Fly Shop has been a great compliment to the office. Now selling flies, leaders, clothing, coffee, snacks and more, along with gas & oil for snowmobiles, boats and ATVs! We are here to offer assistance for those who need a little helping hand.  Come see us and check it out.
